J Allcock & Sons (Allcocks) was founded in 1924 and incorporated in 1928 when they moved to the West Gorton site. Allcocks was founded by James Allcock who used to work for Anchor Chemical. He founded Allcocks to make Factice in competition with Anchor. In the early 1960’s the company was sold back to Anchor who kept it as an independent trading and manufacturing company.
Mr Ron Rushton was the Works Director at Anchor and was responsible for the activities of Allcocks. In 1972, due to internal politics at Anchor he was going to leave but was unable to find another position. His wife then suggested they buy Allcocks, which they did, and it still belongs to the family now, as Mr Andrew Rushton is the sole shareholder and has been MD since 1996.
The company has always been involved with the Rubber Industry.
The company’s activities include trading in Rubber Chemicals, Fillers, Pigments, Processing Agents, Curatives and Recycled and Reclaimed Rubber. We also distribute Silicone Release agents. In the 1980’s we became the largest suppler of Reclaimed Rubber in the UK sourcing the material from Czechoslovakia. Unfortunately, this factory closed so we then sourced from the largest Reclaimer in the world in India.
In 1984 the company started its own recycling activities making Crumb and Granules. Unfortunately, in 1992 a fire was started on the roof of the factory totally destroying it. It took almost 2 years to rebuild, but once completed we had at that time the most modern rubber recycling facility in the UK.
1984 We set up our own crumb production plant.
1990 We became the UK distributor for DE-LINK.
January 1997 We achieved certification to ISO 9001:2000.
1998 We started to recycle FKM.
1999 We bought Wellington Rubber and Processes Tyre Rubber from Truck Tyre Retreading.
2006 We became part of the RAPRA consortium developing Devulcanisation technology.
March 2010 We successfully updated to ISO 9001: 2008.
January 2016 We gained ISO 9001-2015 - only the second UK company to achieve this.
We are the only company in the world who have expertise in Recycling, Reclaiming and Devulcanisation.
Today we recycle over 2000MT for rubber, of different polymers, colours and cure systems. This includes FKM. (To date we have recycled over 1000mt OF FKM)
